Kroeker and Banning Roll to Baja 1000 Victories on Generals

  • Team GT member, Kent Kroeker, helps trio of brothers win in the Super 8 Class at the Baja 1000.
  • Banning Motorsports claims Baja 1000 win for second year in a row.

Fort Mill, SC – December 4, 2012.  The 45th running of the annual SCORE Baja 1000 was not a race for the faint of heart.  Drivers navigated 1121.55-miles of some of the harshest terrain the Mexican desert has to offer and General Tire was represented well by two veterans of the sport in Kent Kroeker, driving for TNT Racing, and Banning Motorsports.  From Ensenada, Mexico to La Paz in Baja California Sur, teams battled deep silt, rocky terrain, big whoops, and the mental challenge of wondering if they would survive the unforgiving elements that many teams succumb to.  Team GT emerged with two wins in Super 8 Class and Class 10 through a lot of hard work and years of experience.

Kroeker, a veteran of the desert, joined forces with TNT Racing and a trio of brothers who were desert rookies.  In a short period of time, Kroeker helped prepare the team for the demons the desert holds and assisted the Mills brothers with logistics and driving support, joining the three young guns in Mexico to tackle the 1,000 plus miles of desert mayhem.  The team dominated the Super 8 Class to take home the win.

“At one point we came to a silt bed with at least 15 buggies and Trophy Trucks stuck in it,” said Taylor Miller.  “It was like a graveyard with drivers standing on top of their vehicles.  I did the only thing I could do – pick a line, put the pedal to the floor and hope for the best.  The General Grabbers lifted the front of the truck and we roosted right past everyone.”

“This was a tremendous experience,” said Kroeker.  “There is no greater test for man and machine than the Baja 1000 Peninsula Run.  The team was on their A-game, we had zero flats from our General Tires, and our Baja Designs Onyx lights were incredible.”

Meanwhile, somewhere else in the depths of the Mexican desert, Banning Motorsports had embarked on their own battle.  After logging hundreds of pre-running miles, extensive logistics preparation, and a quick stop at the El Oasis Orphanage in Valle De Trinidad to drop off much needed supplies, Banning Motorsports was ready to take their shot at the win.  The team executed an almost flawless race posting a Class 10 win and finishing an impressive 16th overall.

“We need to say a huge thank you to all our team members and their families for letting them come along,” said Lee Banning Sr. following the race.  “We could not have won this incredible race without the huge support of our great sponsors; Ford Racing, General Tire, Fox Shox, Select Glass, Method Race Wheels, Neo Synthetics, KC Hilites, Foddrill Fabrication, Weddle Industries, Odyssey Batteries, Action Auto, Azunia Tequila, and Passion Biba Wine.”

The race wrapped up the 2012 SCORE season with still one race to go in Best In The Desert competition as Team GT hits the sandy hills of Henderson, Nevada.
