ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico – (November 19, 2008) – General Tire’s “Team Assault” is ready to take on the venerable 41st annual Tecate Baja 1000.
Made up of five seasoned, winning motorsports teams, Team Assault includes:
* Team 71 drivers Rick Johnson and Ricky Johnson will take on the Trophy Truck class in their effort to make magic happen again as it did with the team’s astounding win at the Vegas to Reno Race this past fall. Rick’s career highlights include Trick Truck winner of the 2008 Vegas to Reno run; five-time Baja 500 champion; two overall wins in Smoken Wheels Guam; and nine class championships including four overall points championships for ProTruck.
* PCI Racing, with Scott Steinberger and Mike Childress, also will compete in the Trophy Truck class. Steinberger’s career highlights include third place in Trick Truck at the General Tire Mint 400, first in the 2005 Vegas to Reno run, five Baja 1000 championships and a first place in ProTruck at the Baja 1000. Childress’s highlights include: third place in Trick Truck at the Mint 400, motorcycle champion at the 2005 and 2006 Baja 1000, ProTruck world record-holder at Pikes Peak; and Open Pro champ for the 2005 and 2006 Best in Desert.
* KORE Racing, helmed by Kent Kroeker, in Stock Full Class. Kent’s career highlights include: Winner of Stock Full in the 2008 General Tire Mint 400 and the 2008 Primm 300; third place in class for the 2008 Vegas to Reno; second place in the 2007 Baja 500; third place in the 2006 Baja 1000; third place – solo in the 2004 Baja 1000; and second place in the 2001 Baja 1000.
* Synergy Motorsports, with driver Mike Horner and co-drivers Corey Susag and Ted Hunnicutt, in Class 8. Mike’s highlights: second place in Class 8 at the 2008 Vegas to Reno event; first in class at the 2008 General Tire Mint 400; five-time Baja 1000 champion; and second place at the SNORE 250 and Midnight Special. Corey’s wins include: three-time Baja 1000 champion and second place at the SNORE 250 and Midnight Special. Ted’s highlights include: seven-time Baja 1000 champion and second place at the SNORE 250 and Midnight Special.
* Marc Burnett in Class 6. The newest member to join Team Assault, Burnett has traded in his motorcycle for a Ford Ranger. Burnett is a Baja 1000 champion in the motorcycle class; he also holds two championships for motorcycle in the Baja 500. He took second place in the Terrible’s 250 and third in the Parker 425.
